Project proposal on human values for smarter cities accepted for Raak Pro – Regieorgaan SIA grant

The project proposal Human Values for Smarter Cities: Designing Understandable Machine-VisionSystems in Public Spaceswhich was created via CoECI‘s 2021 Seed Money (Zaaigelden) program, has been accepted for a RAAK Pro grant co-funded by Regieorgaan SIA, part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). For the next 4 years, we will be working on the design challenge of turning abstract values such as Transparency and Accountability mentioned in smart city/citizens manifesto’s into concrete implementations of new technologies in urban public space. To explore this further, we will use the case of machine vision and AI centred on the design of ‘scan cars’. This project will be developed in collaboration with: AMS, TU Delft, Municipality of Amsterdam CTO Office, Municipality of Rotterdam, ARVOO Group, Tapp, UNSense, ThingsCon and the Media Architecture Biennale.
