Dear all,

At the time of writing this, I am spending a last few days of a short sabbatical in Australia, where I was a guest at the University of Technology in Sydney, with an additional stay at Queensland University of Technology. It has been great to have some time for reading and writing, notably I have been finishing up a ‘city essay’ on cities, algorithms and governance – co-written with Paul Rutten – that will soon be published.

Meanwhile, the Civic Interaction Design group back in Amsterdam has kept itself busy as well. We are extremely happy that our two proposals on immersive media in the CIIIC-artistic research programme have been awarded.  We were also successful in passing the first round of the CLICKNL Ontwerpkracht in Transities (The power of design for transitions) programme with our proposal on the design of digital public spaces. Join us on April 10th in Amsterdam if you’d like to learn more about this or join our community of practice.

As a final highlight, the team of Human Values for Smarter Cities has been working hard towards a handbook for city governments to set up participatory trajectories around the design of urban ai.

Happy reading, and hope to see you in the next months at one of our events!
