SIAS’s research report on the effect of practice-oriented research features CivicIxD’s ‘Circulate’ project as one of its case studies

Recently, the Dutch national funding organization for applied research, Regiorgaan-SIA, has recently published a report on the impact of practice-oriented research projects, presenting the results from an exploratory study that was carried out by researchers from Fontys, the Rathenau Institute and employees of the SIA Directorate. ‘What exactly does the effect look like, and how does it come about?‘ – this question was the guiding principle in the 8-month research, in which 7 RAAK SME projects were examined. CivicIxD’s Circulate project (2018-2020) was among the case studies used in this research.

Among its findings, the report presents insights into how impact is a multifaceted phenomenon that can be manifested in several types. In addition, it also mentions how connecting with the right people and organizations and being open to seizing unforeseen opportunities at the right time play a meaningful part in realizing impact.
