Explore the Centre of Expertise in Creative Innovation’s latest publication ‘Testing the Waters. The Values of artistic practices for societal challenges’.

Recently the Centre of Expertise Creative Innovation launched the publication ‘Testing the Waters. The Values of artistic practices for societal challenges‘, which examines how creative and artistic methods can contribute to research and innovation while retaining their unique power.

There has been an increasing interest from both funding, policy and cultural organisations in artistic practices as part of mission-driven innovation or in the context of policy regarding various societal transformations. Yet at the same time, there are still some tensions in their interest in the explorative, agenda-setting, origin-based, iterative, caring, inter-disciplinary, situated, embodied qualities (to name just a few) of artistic practices and the sometimes still instrumental, purpose-driven, goal-oriented approach of such agenda’s.

To explore how that could be overcome, “Testing Waters’ explored what researchers and teachers connected to CoECI see as the main qualities and outcomes of artistic practices, as well as some of the hurdles to overcome these tensions.
