We are excited to announce that Civic IxD has been granted a residency to explore the question: ‘What happens when the Civic Economy meets the Protocol Economy?’. Over the next 3 months, CivicIxD will welcome Iskander Smit as a resident researcher, with support from the Centre for Economic Transformation (CET).
In his residency, Iskander will dive into two influential trends shaping a fairer, more sustainable society: the civic economy (community-based economic models) and the protocol economy (decentralized, web3-driven frameworks). His work will include mapping Dutch innovators bridging these fields, assessing recent advancements, and organising discussions on:
How can the protocol economy strengthen the civic economy, and what knowledge, methods, or products need to be further developed for this purpose?
One area of focus will be alternative currencies, examining how they can foster and drive the commons. This residency will be the prelude to new research projects such as RAAK and/or European applications.
If you’re working in related areas or interested in collaborating, please reach out to Iskander via i.r.smit@hva.nl.
