Design & The City was a four-day event that brought together international experts, researchers, designers, educators and policymakers to explore citizen-centred design approaches to the smart city. During our workshops, a round table conference and a session on living lab methodologies, the role of designers was addressed as initiators, innovators, campaigners, connectors, organisers, critics and imagineers of alternative urban futures. In addition, we discussed concrete design strategies that can contribute to more liveable, sustainable and sociable urban communities.
As the overall programme coordinator, Martijn de Waal curated the programme and oversaw the production, in close cooperation with the Design & The City team, consisting of Kim Hagenaar (Conference Producer), Gabriele Ferri (Coordinator Workshops & Lab of Labs), Ellis Buis (Press Relations & Communication), Twan Eikelenboom (Editor in Chief Website and Newspaper), Maarten Terpstra (Community Manager Knowledge Mile) and Jennifer Veldman (Production Assistant)
